3D Printing QR Codes: Complete Guide
1. Pre-Print Validation
Before wasting resin or filament, validate your QR code digitally:
- Screen Test: Rotate the 3D preview to face you directly and scan it with your phone camera.
- Slicer Check: Load the STL into your slicer (Chitubox, Lychee, PrusaSlicer). Preview the layers to ensure clear gaps between modules.
- Module Size: Each square should be minimum 1mm Γ 1mm for resin, or 2mm+ for FDM.

- Sand until the white/grey resin shows through on raised modules

Method C: Dual-Color Print (FDM)
- If you have a multi-material printer (MMU, AMS), slice with two colors
- Base layer = White, Raised modules = Black
Method D: Fill Method (Advanced)
- Print with recessed squares (invert the STL or use negative extrusion)
- Fill the holes with black epoxy resin or paint
- Sand flush once cured
4. Recommended Settings
- Module Size: 1.5mm β 3mm (bigger = more reliable)
