I love this book!!! To give the profound maternal urge in little girls no quarter, to channel it off to dolls when there are real infants about, is among other things a serious disservice to the children of the little girl when she grows up. Or liedlofff awesome it is that the girls’ in the indigenous cultures greatest joy stems from the pleasure of bringing their father a drink of water.
She blames homosexuality, drug abuse, fussy babies, loneliness, isolation, lack of independence, and sadness of the Western world on our childrens’ lack I was expecting much more from this book. As is Huck’s Raft: Just keep on loving them.

They are not controlled by others, they are free. Liedloff is often called the mother of attachment parenting, and lots of parents I trust recommended this book to me. They rarely experience strangers, crowds, or machines.

Another idea I liked about the book was the concept that children, like all humans, are social animals and they do what they think is expected of them. But now, much less then when I read this for the first time, I haven’t a clue as to what to do with this insight.

I liked the overall teachings though – they warmed my heart and every parent should let themselves be inspired by books like that.
This was probably groundbreaking in the time it was written, and is still groundbreaking today for people who haven’t been exposed to ideas outside of the mainstream. She narrats her opinions and I knew that from the start. Liedloff spent five months in the jungle.
She came to the realisation that essential child-rearing techniques such as touch, trust and community have been undermined in modern times, and in this book suggests practical ways to regain our natural well-being, for our children and ourselves.

You can probably get this book from the library but I certainly do not regret this purchase. Pages with related products.
